There's a question I hear from people who get in touch about coaching.
Not always out loud, but it's there underneath. Do I have to commit to something big? A six-month programme? A year of work on myself?
And the honest answer is no.
Most of the people I work with come for one session. Sometimes that one session is all that's needed. Sometimes they choose to come back. Either is fine. Both are useful. But the starting point is rarely a programme. It's usually a single conversation.
I want to be straightforward about what that one conversation can offer, and just as straightforward about what it can't.
It won't fix your life. Because your life isn't broken.

So much of what's marketed as personal development starts from the premise that there's something wrong with you that needs sorting out. I don't work from that premise. The people who come to me aren't broken. They're stuck, or circling, or aware that something needs to shift, but the underlying foundation is sound. We're working with what's already there, not trying to rebuild it.
It won't give you a ten-step plan. Plans without perspective create more pressure, and most of the people who get in touch already have a head full of plans. What they're missing isn't another list. It's a different angle on the situation.
It won't tell you what to do. You already have enough people doing that, and you likely have enough voices in your own head doing it too. My job isn't to add another one. My job is to help you hear the quieter voice, the one that already knows

It won't require vulnerability for vulnerability's sake. There's no forced sharing, no diving into the story you already know so well. We use nature and landscape as the way in, and that means you can work on something significant without having to lay it all out in detail.
And it won't lock you into ongoing work. One session can be enough. Many people stop there, and that's exactly as it should be.
It creates space, perspective, movement, and relief. Often more quickly than people expect.
Think of it as a reset, not a programme. One conversation. A different angle. Then you decide what's next.

The way it works is simple, even if it sounds a little unconventional at first. We use nature's landscapes as a metaphor for whatever you're sitting with. The thing you can't see the wood for. The rut you feel stuck in. The circle you've been going round in. The path that's not quite leading anywhere. The corner you can't see around.
Whatever the phrase is, it already points to the solution. The language we use to describe being stuck contains the very landscape that can help us get unstuck. We just need to step into it properly and let it do its work.
Logic alone won't get us there. Logic is brilliant for some things and useless for others. When we're trying to expand a comfort zone, shift a stuck pattern, or hear what our inner wisdom is trying to say, logic tends to throw up the can'ts, the shoulds, and the that-won't-works. Metaphor bypasses all of that.
That's why one session can be enough. We're not trying to solve the problem head-on. We're letting the landscape do the talking.
A session usually lasts around 90 minutes. It can be done over Zoom, on the phone, or in person if you're near enough.
You'll be asked to bring a situation in mind. Not a tidy one. The one that's actually on your mind right now, even if you can't quite put it into words yet. That's often the best starting point.
From there, we work with the metaphor that emerges. Sometimes that means physically walking somewhere, sometimes drawing, sometimes just looking out of a window. There's no script. The session goes where it needs to go.
What people tend to leave with is some combination of: a quieter mind, a clearer sense of where they are, and an action or two they hadn't seen before. Occasionally, something much bigger shifts. Either way, the work happens in the session. There's no homework, no follow-up programme, no upsell.
If you've read this far, it's probably because something here has landed.
One session may be all that's needed to help things move again. If you'd like to find out more about what that one session with me might entail, do get in touch.
