If you're feeling overwhelmed about a decision you have to make what about trying something different.
Why not have a listen to this poem, or even better go out into nature and do what I did and observe a landscape and notice how much more you observe over time and then apply that insight to gathering data about the decision you have to make.
WAIT
There’s always new data to be gathered in the waiting
Data that only comes into focus as you attend separately to every contour of the landscape
Information only available as you take time to tune into the frequency of the landscape
Wait
On first inspection what do you see
(Fields, woods and Firth of Forth near the horizon)
Don’t be so quick to generalise
Look beyond that first snapshot
Wait
In the waiting other data appears
(Wind turbines, a hill in the distance and a ship on the water)
Data that might be the answer you need
That could make the difference
Wait
Sit still
Pay attention
What more do you see
(Daffodils and gorse in the foreground, islands in the river, and electricity pylons)
Wait
I know you’re feeling agitated
Frustrated with lack of action
Please do delay the decision and continue to pay attention
(A train moving across the landscape, a bird hovering above its prey, cyclists powering up the hill)
Wait
Allow time for the mist to clear
The weather to change
And sun to track across the sky
(Puddles, ponds and lakes only visible from the coruscation when the sun shone from a particular angle on their watery surfaces)
Wait
And what about looking in other directions
Look behind you (another hill, with walkers and sheep moving across it)
Look up (wispy clouds, a helicopter and small plane)
Wait
It’s only now after all that waiting
That you’ve gathered the data
Seen the landscape anew and in full
No more waiting
The time for waiting is over
The data is gathered
A decision can be made
What decision will you make today?
