What Sunrise Can Teach You About Your Next Step

If you let nature be your coach what questions does Sunrise have to ask that may provide insight on a situation you’re struggling with, want new awareness about or don't know what to do about?

This is the first card in a Landscaping Your Life oracle coaching card set I'm developing this year where nature is our coach - no statements in the deck about what the card means just coaching questions for you to answer and get insight about a problem you're grappling with.

Before reading my suggested questions below what question comes to mind for you?

What question is sunrise asking you to consider and answer today?

Don’t dismiss or judge a tangent that comes to mind - answer the question and notice how it illuminates your conundrum.

What action is your answer inviting you to take?

I'm Alison Smith and for 25 years I've used nature and metaphor as a means of helping you see situations you're struggling with from a different perspective helping you move from not knowing to knowing what to do.

The three patterns I’d like to focus on in this post that I believe sunrise invites you to think about are

  1. New beginnings
  2. Illumination
  3. Predictability of timing

Pick one of these elements, or two or all of them, and answer some or all of the questions shown below as you reflect on the situation you’d like more insight about.

If you'd rather there's a video of me sharing more about this process

You may find that one answer to one question may be all that’s necessary to unlock the insight needed - or a longer conversation with sunrise may be required. Here are the questions

New beginnings

  1. What is starting for you?
  2. What are you being asked to turn away from?
  3. How can you stay focussed on and embrace the new?

Illumination

  1. What is requiring illumination in your life?
  2. What are you not seeing (missing) in your current perspective?
  3. If you view the situation with awe what do you notice?

Predictability of timing

  1. In what way are judging the current situation for not being different despite the predictableness of the outcome.
  2. How is timing important to the situation?
  3. How can you prepare for and catch the next sunrise? (Hint: if you move north or south the sun is seem to rise earlier or later and, whilst predictable, the sunrises approximately 1-3 mins earlier or later each day as it moves towards or away from solstice)

Other patterns of sunrise that may invite questions include:

  1. How is the situation made more beautiful by the pattern of clouds across the sky (all 360 degrees of it).
  2. Despite the thick cloud how is it helpful to know that the sunrise is still there?
  3. How is it useful to remember that every sunrise is unique each day and from every perspective of every sunrise (hint: observe the movement of the sunshine on water as you yourself move - ie the beam is in relation to you no one else!

Cool insight: remember our language that the sun rises is actually inaccurate -  it’s the turn of the earth that bring the sun into view which invites a final question: How does your Earth need to move? (Which feels like the next card in the set).

As a result of answering none, one or all of these questions: What action are you being invited to take?
